House of the Sun

House of the Sun

It sounds counter intuitive, but I think almost every landscape photographer dreads "clear blue skies". Most of the day was clear and sunny, and then this large cloud mass formed on the slopes of Haleakala just as the sun was setting. It lit the clouds up with amazing hues of orange...but I'm pretty sure the people in the bottom left of the shot were more concerned about the downpour of rain that was sweeping across the side of the volcano.

Location: Taken from Waiehu, Maui towards the Makawao side of Haleakala.
